Chairman Wontumi advised to stay away from politics of insult

Stay Home. Stay Safe. Save Lives.

The Ashanti regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as ‘Chairman Wontumi’ has been advised to desist from politics of insult that can lead to a disaster in the upcoming December general election.

According to the NPP’s sympathizer, 2020 general election will based on issues and national development but not a competion of insults.

The call came after the NPP Chairman allegedly rained insults on the newly selected rallymate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof Jane Naana Opoku m-Agyemang by the party’s flagbearer and leader John Dramani Mahama few days ago.

Read the letter below:

Dear Chairman Wontumi,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirit. I’ve watched with goosebumps excerpts of a video in circulation on social media where you slight the newly selected running-mate of the NDC, Prof. Jane N. O. Agyemang on your own radio station, ‘Wontumi Radio.’

Politics is a contest of ideas and not who can insult the most. And to borrow the words of Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko whom I took inspiration from before writing this piece, “NPP folks should not go the NDC way: 2020 is not about insults. It’s about issues. You have the facts on your side. Use them and use them with decency and persuasion. #2020NotAboutInsults.”

Mr. Chairman, there is no denying the fact that you’re doing well for the party in the Ashanti region, however, it’s important for you to note that some actions and inactions of yours lately in the public space erodes the very gains you’ve chalked.

Ghanaians look up to the NPP as the only party to take them to the “promise land” and it’s important that we do not let them down. Your position as a regional chairman reminds me of the venerable B.J. Da Rocha(late) and what he stood for as a national chairman—-discipline and respect. You and I know that the NPP is not noted for nebulous insinuations and name-calling. We deal with issues and not personalities!

It will therefore be in your interest to retract those defamatory words and render an unqualified apology to Professor JNOP.
NB: We are humans first, before politics! Thanks for your cooperation.
